St. Louis Bar and Grill (Dartmouth)
St. Louis Bar and Grill - Many Occasions
No St. Louis Bar and Grill is not a Michelin Star restaurant, in fact the food is usually much too salty and has the intricacy of a box of Kraft Dinner. BUT some how this unoriginal sports bar perched up on a hill in Dartmouth NS, has found a place in our hearts. Perhaps its the unpretentiousness that we all seek when we are stuck in pretentious places with pretentious people, or maybe it's just its the cheap beer prices. There is something about this place that keeps my friends and I returning.
St. Louis Bar and Grill at 547 Portland St. is just one of the 60 franchises that dot the Maritimes and Ontario. While very similar to a number of sports bars chains in Canada and the US, St. Louis' claims to fame is that they are 100% Canadian owned, been in business for over 25 years, and are #1 in draught beer sales per square foot in Ontario....whatever that means.
On all of our visits (and there have been many after work pints consumed there) the service has been decent and the food forgettable. We usually find ourselves there on half price burger day (frozen processed burgers) or some other food special day, and almost every time we can't resist the aroma of future self- regret (deep fried food). If you're into watching sports, as we are, there's no shortage of big screens in the Dartmouth location to watch numerous games at the same time. The rest of the decor that is not covered in massive TV's is pretty much what you would expect from a place like this...random sports memorabilia from local athletes (Crosby, McKinnon, etc. ) Jays, Leafs and Canadiens gear and so on
.
For our friends, Nasil and I, this place is in a great location, which probably contributes to the pull of this bar. Just in the right spot on the way home from work that makes it seem like a shame not to stop. As I write this, I occurs to me that perhaps the mystery of what brings us to St. Louis Bar and Grill on a weekly basis, isn't so hard to point out after all. Don't we all just need to have a homebar where we can spend time with our favorite people? This blog entry is not necessarily a recommendation to visit St. Louis Bar and Grill, instead it's a recommendation to spend time with most important people in your lives. Whether is be at a bar, cafe, restaurant, rink, or shopping mall, it doesn't really matter.
So go....go find your St. Louis Bar and Grill...and hopefully the food will be as good as the company.
