Battery Park

Battery Park - August 15, 2018

After just landing a new job, Nasil and I decide to head out for a bite to eat and a couple of celebration bevies. Since Battery Park is just down the road from us in Downtown Dartmouth, this seemed to be a perfect spot to head to. This is actually our second time to Battery Park, so we've already started to form an opinion about the place and the food and beer they serve.

Battery Park, home to the North Brewing store, opened its doors to the thirsty Dartmouth population in 2015. Led by chef Mark Gray, this place has gained a strong reputation for its farm-to-table eats and a great selection of NS craft beer. The first time we visited Battery Park was last April when we were visiting, unfortunately, at that time the patio was not open, but tonight the patio was full on, and we were lucky enough to grab a spot at their communal table set up.

As soon as we sat down, a server was there to grab our drink order. I went with North Brewing's Breakwater a coconut lime sour beer (as recommended by our server) while Nasil picked a witbier from North Brewing called Chrysomallow. Both drinks arrived super fast, and both were excellent choices. For food, I grabbed some chicken wings and Nasil went with the Vegan Burger and fries. The first time we went to Battery Park over a year ago we weren't too hungry, so for some reason, we chose to share the Vegan burger then as well. A little background info: Neither Nasil or I are vegans or vegetarians, and we both are quite fond of meat in all of its delicious forms, but this Vegan Burger is something else. The first time we tried this burger we were literally blown away by the flavors of that came from this veggie burger, so we were definitely interested to see if it held up to our high expectations again this time.

Our food took only about 15 minutes to arrive after we ordered it. The service and the speed at which our food and drinks arrived were fantastic. Even though it was really busy, our server checked up on us regularly and quickly noticed when it was time for drink #2 (by the way my second beer was North Brewing's Malternate Reality New England Style IPA. and it was one of the best IPA's I've had in a while).

When the food arrived the presentation was ok, but the taste was even better. The wings were very good, but needed a bit more hot sauce on them, to be really considered hot wings. The fries we shared we also decent, but the showstopper was once again this Vegan Burger. The burger consists of a beet burger, a homemade hummus and lots of sprouts, greens, and pickled veggies. I know what many of you are probably thinking right now...."that doesn't sound all that good," but trust me it is. Not sure how they do it, but I'd put this Vegan Burger up against any hamburger I've had in NS since moving back in May. Don't believe me, then you gotta go and give this thing a try.

The price of our meal, including 3 beers came out to about $60. The beer, like most craft beer, is a bit high, but the quality of the drink is well worth it. Overall we're very impressed with Battery Park and North Brewing. There are still lots of casual dining options for us to try out, and given its close proximity to our home, we'll be back again....many times.
